The Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM camera lens is occasionally mistaken for an L-Series due to the exceptional image quality. This can be credited to the two Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) and two aspherical glass lens elements included. The only difference though is that its built is similar to that of consumer-type lenses. It is one of Canons best general purpose lens thanks to its vast focal length range. Whether your capturing scenic landscapes or taking up close and personal portraits this lens will do the job. Moreover, it equates to a 27mm full frame equivalent when taking shots.

One of the main advantages of the Canon 17 55mm f 2.8 EF S  IS USM is the fact that you can take exceptional images even in low light thanks to the wide aperature provided. When in low lighting environments there is no need to adjust the ISO as it is fast enough by itself to stop motion. This results is a brighter viewfinder as more light is captured and enables a more precise autofocus mode for several focus points.

Combining this wide aperture with the 3-stop IS (image stabilization) feature of the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens makes handheld or monopod shooting easy and hassle-free. Having the image stabilization allows users to take shots at shutter speeds up to three times slower than without the IS feature. This makes for a very clear image with not unwanted noises that can cause the image to skip during startup. This feature however is not needed with panning shots nor is it capable of stopping motion.

The filter diameter of the Canon EF S 17 55mm f 2.8 IS USM camera lens is 77mm. it has a maximum length of 110.6mm and weighs in at 645 grams. Users have the option of full time manual (FTM) and internal or rear focusing, manual focus and focus types respectively. Unfortunately the materials used in construction are not weather resistant so take extra care when using it. With regards to sharpness and overlapping focal lengths and apertures, this lens provides really sharp and crisp images be it wide open or from edge to edge.
